About
The best of home cooking doesn’t need fancy justifications or descriptions. The flavors and the warm hearth comfort they inspire speak volumes all on their own. Beef Tips with Gravy tastes volumes in a seemingly simple dish: savory tender beef tips swimming in a thick and creamy gravy that only deepens the flavors. Whether served with potatoes, rice, or vegetables, Beef Tips with Gravy is the meal you see on the table and sigh with relief and nostalgia.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds beef chuck roast, sirloin, or other types of stewing beef, cubed
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup flour all-purpose
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped, optional
Directions
Step 1 -Place the beef in a bowl and season well with the salt and pepper.
Step 2 -Heat the olive oil in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium-high heat on the stove-top.
Step 3 -Sear the beef on all sides.
Step 4 -Transfer the beef to a plate for later.
Step 5 -Melt the butter in the same pot.
Step 6 -Once the butter has melted, add the onion and cook until tender and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Step 7 -Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Step 8 -Add the flour and stir constantly just to cook off the flour flavor, about 1 minute.
Step 9 -Add the beef broth and stir.
Step 10 -Once combined, add the soy sauce, Worcestershire, thyme, and bay leaf.
Step 11 -Once fully combined, add the beef back to the pot.
Step 12 -Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
Step 13 -Cook until the gravy has a thick consistency, about 30 minutes.
Step 14 -Remove the thyme sprigs and bay leaf from the pot prior to serving.
Step 15 -Season with more salt and pepper to taste.
Step 16 -Serve garnished with parsley.
