The Homecoming Noodle Bake is an indulgently delicious and incredibly hearty dinner that is ready just in time for the big dance, the big meeting, or whatever life throws at you! Layer after layer of buttery egg noodles in a tangy, cheesy cream sauce and a rich, beefy meat sauce nestle in between melty sharp cheese; it's guaranteed to be the belle of the ball of your kitchen. The Homecoming Noodle Bake is ready in just over half an hour and tastes so good you'll be welcoming it back to your table in no time!
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce, plus 1 (8-ounce) can
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
- 8 ounces dried egg noodles
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 1/4 cups small curd cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray.
Step 3 -In a large skillet, over medium-high heat, brown and crumble the ground beef, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 4 -Drain the grease from the skillet.
Step 5 -Add the tomato sauce, the salt, and the pepper to the skillet.
Step 6 -Stir the mixture and reduce the heat to low.
Step 7 -Let the beef mixture simmer until thickened slightly, about 5-10 minutes.
Step 8 -Cook the egg noodles according to package directions.
Step 9 -Drain the noodles.
Step 10 -In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream and the cottage cheese, stirring them together.
Step 11 -Stir the egg noodles into the sour cream mixture, gently coating the noodles.
Step 12 -Season the noodles with pepper.
Step 13 -Stir the green onions into the noodle mixture.
Step 14 -Layer 1/2 of the noodle mixture in the bottom of the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
Step 15 -Spread 1/2 of the meat mixture over the noodle layer.
Step 16 -Sprinkle the meat mixture layer with 1/2 of the cheddar cheese.
Step 17 -Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
Step 18 -Bake until the cheese is melted, about 20 minutes.
Step 19 -Serve hot!
