Ingredients

  • 1 small head cabbage
  • 2 cups potatoes, diced
  • 1 (16-ounce) package smoked kielbasa sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 slices bread, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup butter, sliced

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2 -Remove and wash the outer leaves from the cabbage.

Step 3 -Line a 9x13-inch baking dish with enough of the cabbage leaves to cover the bottom entirely.

Step 4 -Shred the remaining cabbage.

Step 5 -In a large bowl, add the shredded cabbage, the potatoes, and the sausage and stir to combine.

Step 6 -Spread the cabbage-sausage mixture over the cabbage leaves in the baking dish.

Step 7 -In a large bowl, add the milk, the beaten eggs, the salt, and the pepper and whisk until well-combined.

Step 8 -Fold the bread cubes into the milk mixture and set the bowl aside until the bread absorbs some liquid, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 9 -Pour the bread mixture over the cabbage mixture.

Step 10 -Dot the top of the bake with the butter.

Step 11 -Bake until the potatoes are tender and the top is lightly browned, about 45 minutes.

Step 12 -Serve.
