About
MaMaw's parties are always well-attended, especially when she brings out her wonderful snacks! MaMaw's Sausage Balls are meaty, savory, succulent, just a little spicy, and so fantastic! Green peppers and cream cheese help make each sphere of sausage goodness a joy by contrasting and elevating the meat flavor tucked into each mini sphere. MaMaw's Sausage Balls makes sure everyone RSVPs "yes" to your next shindig.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 pound ground spicy bulk pork sausage
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 cups all-purpose baking mix
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup scallions, optional, thinly sliced, for garnish
- dipping sauce, optional, to taste, of your choice, for serving

Step 2 -Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 3 -In a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, add the oil.
Step 4 -Add the bell peppers to the hot oil and cook, while stirring occasionally, until tender, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 5 -Transfer the bell peppers from the heat and set them aside.
Step 6 -In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the sausage and the cream cheese and beat on high speed until well-combined, about 2 minutes.
Step 7 -Add the bell peppers and the cheddar cheese to the sausage mixture and beat on medium speed until well-incorporated, about 1 minute.
Step 8 -In a medium bowl, add the baking mix, the onion powder, and the garlic powder and whisk to combine.
Step 9 -Gradually add the dry ingredients mixture to the sausage mixture, while beating on low speed, until well-incorporated, about 2 minutes.
Step 10 -Roll the sausage mixture into 1-inch balls and place them about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.
Step 11 -Transfer the baking sheets to the refrigerator and let the sausage balls chill for 15 minutes.
Step 12 -Bake the sausage balls in the oven, one baking sheet at a time, until they are golden-brown and cooked through to 160 degrees F, about 20 minutes.
Step 13 -Transfer the cooked sausage balls to a clean platter and garnish with the scallions.
Step 14 -Serve with the dipping sauce.
