About
Clean, smooth layers is the secret to how this dessert looks like a million bucks: you can actually see how delicious each bite will be! Millionaire’s Shortbread starts with a layer of buttery shortbread. Then it tops that with a layer of rich caramel. And then Millionaire’s Shortbread tops itself again with sweet chocolate. The combination brings out the best in each flavor and each bite brings on a winning smile! Best of all, you could be enjoying the snack of the rich and famous in under an hour!
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup butter, cold
- 7 tablespoons butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 3/4 cup semisweet or milk chocolate chips
Directions
Step 1 -Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
Step 2 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 3 -In a mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the flour and granulated sugar.
Step 4 -Cube the 3/4 cups of cold butter and mix it into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter, your hands, or a fork until it's a crumbly texture.
Step 5 -Press the dough into the pan for your shortbread crust. Prick all over with a fork.
Step 6 -Bake the crust until lightly golden, for about 20 minutes.
Step 7 -Set aside and allow to cool.
Step 8 -In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, add the 7 tablespoons of room temperature butter, condensed milk, and brown sugar.
Step 9 -Stir constantly until the butter has melted. Gently bring the contents to a boil while still keeping the heat on low. This will require you to stir vigorously for 5-10 minutes.
Step 10 -Once it thickens and becomes a caramel brown, pour it over the crust and allow it to cool. To speed up the cooling process, you can cover the baking with foil and place the dish in the refrigerator while you prepare the chocolate layer.
Step 11 -Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave or in a saucepan on the stove-top on low heat, careful not to burn.
Step 12 -Spread the chocolate layer evenly over the top of the completely cooled caramel layer.
Step 13 -Once that has cooled, cut into bars and serve.
